JUDGING CRITERIA (PROJECT Categories)

To merit a SIP Planning Awards, the entry must provide an outstanding model in master planning and urban design. Ideally, it should also reflect a significant advancement in the practice for the benefit of the community


For the 12 PROJECT categories, entries will be judged against the following criteria:
Total 100% Breakdown
  • 25%     Originality & Innovation
  • 25%     Planning/Urban Design Approach and Methodology
  • 25%     Core Values Demonstration
  • 15%     Implementability
  • 10%     Presentation and graphic

  1. Originality and Innovation
    How does this plan show an innovative approach to planning? How can the plan or elements of the plan be used as a best practice example?
  2. Planning /Urban Design Approach and Methodology
    How does the planning/urban design methodology illustrate a holistic and thorough approach of planning and design practices? How does the plan demonstrate a high quality of research and analysis in determining its proposed concepts?
  3. Core Values Demonstration
    How does the plan champion and provide for all users and potential users in an equitable manner? How does the plan protect and nurture the natural environment? How does the plan ensure the continued economic success of the project, from operating and maintenance costs to return on investment? What are the short term and long-term benefits for the various public and private stakeholders? Emphasis will be placed on the specific themes related to the award categories. In addition, for the urban design categories, the core value demonstration will revolve around the design approach for the public space and/or the approach in heritage conservation
  4. Implementability
    The project should show completion through any of the following factors:
    • Implementation of the project on the ground.
    • Approval of the project by a government or regulatory authority.
    • (For student projects) Submission to a polytechnic or tertiary institution.
  5. Presentation & Graphics
    How are the vision, planning objectives and core values being communicated to all stakeholders? This also applies to how the plan is being presented to the award's panel of juries in a way that allows the juries to appreciate The value proposition of the plan in a clear and concise manner

For the PEOPLE category on Young Planner of the Year, entries will be judged against the following criteria:
  1. Deliver achievements in planning profession.
  2. Pursue further development in planning as a profession.
  3. Exhibit leadership quality that is role model to other young planners.
  4. Active participation in SIP events and programme.
  5. Presentation and Interview.
