AWARD CATEGORIES
For the 9th SIP Planning Awards, SIP is pleased to announce a total of 13 categories of awards. To recognise not only outstanding projects,
but also individuals who have contributed significantly to the planning profession, there are 12 categories under PROJECT and 1 category under PEOPLE:
PROJECT
SIP wishes to honour the achievements with like- minded professionals and firms that identify with the Planning Principles SIP champions:
- EXCELLENCE IN PLANNING > 5000 HA
This award is for a plan that demonstrates innovation and excellence in developing liveable communities that are economic engines at regional level.
Applications may include but are not limited to visioning and comprehensive planning of large new and/or existing urban areas and growth corridors
supported by clear regional economic development strategies.
- EXCELLENCE IN PLANNING > 500 HA & UP TO 5000 HA
This award is for a plan that demonstrates innovation and excellence in developing liveable communities at district level. Applications may include
but are not limited to visioning, planning and development of townships, industrial parks and urban centres.
- EXCELLENCE IN PLANNING < & UP TO 500 HA
This award is for a plan that demonstrates innovation and excellence in developing liveable communities at neighbourhood and/or district level.
Applications may include but are not limited to visioning, planning and development of townships, industrial parks and urban centres.
- EXCELLENCE IN URBAN DESIGN, PLACEMAKING & PUBLIC SPACE
This award is for a plan that demonstrates innovative urban design principles that curate delightful urban experience of a locale,
with the emphasis on the development of the place's character and the sense of identity that is unique to the people and the place itself.
The project shall display the critical and positive role played by the planners and/or urban designers in such undertaking.
- EXCELLENCE IN URBAN DESIGN, HERITAGE & CONSERVATION
This award is for a plan that demonstrates innovative urban design principles that curate delightful urban experience of a locale,
with a strong emphasis on the design response to the historical and cultural significance of a given period. An in-depth analysis of the
urban morphology of the area where the plan is located will be highly regarded. The project shall exemplify a sensitive approach towards respecting
and/or preserving urban fabric, and in so doing bring about a positive change in the wider urban environment.
- EXCELLENCE IN PLANNING FOR ENVIRONMENTAL RESILIENCY
This award is for a plan that demonstrates innovative approach and design solutions in mitigating risks, adapting to changes and supporting
environmental sustainability in the face of disruptive events. Such events include not only climatic and natural disasters, but also negative
impacts arising from rapid urbanisation. A holistic considerations of various urban systems critical to environmental sustainability will be highly regarded.
- EXCELLENCE IN PLANNING FOR HEALTH & WELL BEING
This award is for a plan that demonstrates its innovative approach and design solutions in integrating health and well being of people in an urban development.
The plan should possess a holistic approach, involving multiple stakeholders, to improve the abilities of the cities, districts or neighbourhoods and its
communities to address the physical, mental and/or social issues. This should also include measures on how to adapt to the ageing of the population at large.
- EXCELLENCE IN PLANNING FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & SOCIAL INCLUSIVENESS
This award is for a plan that demonstrates the significance of social inclusiveness in urban development, engages the communities as an integral part of
the planning process and produces tangible outcomes. The engagement of communities may include participatory design, feedback and outreach through working
sessions, meetings, workshops and digital platforms.
- EXCELLENCE IN PLANNING DRIVEN BY INNOVATIVE & SMART URBAN SOLUTIONS
This award is for a plan that demonstrates the integration of innovation and smart solutions in an urban development. These solutions may include technologies
that impact how people work, live, travel and perform all other activities of their daily lives. The in-depth consideration for implementation will be highly regarded.
- JOINT AWARD BY SIP & HKIP FOR EXCELLENCE IN PLANNING
This award is for a plan that demonstrates responses to the planning concerns related to a highly urbanised environment, where both Singapore and Hong Kong
share similar planning challenges. This award specifically recognises innovative, feasible planning solutions to address the pressing urban issues, including
but not limited to scarce land supply, high density living, ageing population and buildings, as well as climate and environmental changes.
- JOINT AWARD BY SIP & PDD OF HKIS FOR EXCELLENCE IN INTEGRATED URBAN DEVELOPMENT
This award is for an integrated urban development completed within the last 5 years from the date of registration. The project must be situated in Hong Kong or
Singapore only. The project shall preferably occupy a land area of no smaller than 2 HA. The project shall demonstrate that it:
- achieved a good mix of land-use
- achieved a marketplace acceptance
- achieved high standard of excellence across a range of disciplines - planning, urban design, architecture, construction, resiliency, economics and management
- have a positive impact on communities and/or immediate context
- is environmentally sustainable
- provides a role model or strategy that can be replicated in other communities
- OUTSTANDING STUDENT PROJECT
This award is to recognise creative student planning projects on a range of topics including but not limited to urban planning, urban design, sustainability
concepts involving environmental, social and economic considerations.
PEOPLE
- YOUNG PLANNER OF THE YEAR
This award is to recognise outstanding contribution by SIP planners 40 years old & below
towards the advancement of the planning profession in Singapore. The planner shows the
tenacity to go above and beyond to seek opportunities to demonstrate the role planners can
play in shaping our urban environment. The candidate must demonstrate contributions to SIP
activities in the last 24 months.
